I have always found drawing and illustrating to be what brings me most joy, which is why I chose to study in the school of design and creative arts here at Loughborough and why I had to enter this competition.

Through my illustrations I like to express my feelings and observations about myself and about the world, to tell stories, and to catch the viewer’s imagination.

With Campus Communities I focused on what makes Loughborough campus a great community to be a part of – the shared spaces, the range of activities to take part in, and places that are open to everyone equally, no matter their background.

I think being more connected with the people around us and forming strong friendships, like I have done in my time as a student here, is the key to building a kinder, wiser world. Inclusivity is an important theme to me, having multiple marginalised identities, so I tried to include a diverse range of figures in my illustration.

I would love the audience to view my work and think about their own friendships, maybe to be inspired to expand their own social circles and see the value of community.

I think the campus setting is unique for the social value it has – and being able to be part of such a vibrant, diverse community is only beneficial for our wellbeing, mental health, and personal growth.

As I go into my third and final year as a BA Graphic Design student here at Loughborough, I aim to continue to illustrate and design with community and connection in mind.
