The Staff Experience Survey is an important element of our work on People and Culture, and a great way to have your voice heard. We want to hear your thoughts and feelings on working here at Loughborough University, on the things we already do well, and the areas we need to focus on to make your experience of working here even better.
The survey will be open 3 - 30 November 2025 and all colleagues are encouraged to complete the survey to have a say about the school or service you work in, and about the University in general. The survey helps us to work together to ensure that Loughborough remains a great place to work.
As in previous years, we are committed to sharing the survey results to enable us all to work together on making the changes that matter most to colleagues, whilst maintaining all that is great about working here at the University.
Your Voice. Real Impact
Your voice has been heard. We listen to and act on survey feedback, making changes informed by what you have shared. These changes include…
- The Vice-Chancellors Awards going from strength to strength with the introduction of new categories, and the greatest number of nominations received since its inception, enabling even more staff to be recognised. This year alone the awards received nearly 400 nominations and recognised the exceptional achievements of colleagues from across job families, schools and services.
- Earlier in the year we were proud to be deemed sector-leading in our staff experience in the Inspire HE Rankings. The feedback you provided in the Staff Experience Survey helped us to achieve this alongside providing insight as to where we can go further to support colleagues and improve the employee experience.
- We’ve introduced the Loughborough Real Living Wage supplement to address pay compression at the lower grades.
- The launch of the Octopus Electric Vehicle Scheme, providing eligible colleagues with the opportunity to access exclusive rates on flexible lease agreements for electric vehicles.
- Introduction and piloting of new career pathways and promotion routes for Specialist & Supporting Academic (SSA) staff. We now have a set of criteria to support a robust promotions process to ensure we have opportunities for professional development for the staff who continue to provide an outstanding educational experience. The pilot will continue into the 2026 promotion round.
- General Assemblies open to all staff, and led by the Vice-Chancellor and the senior leadership team, have enabled colleagues to hear important updates about the University and to learn about the action that is being taken to ensure that the most important issues facing the University are being addressed.
- Recognising the important role line managers play in supporting individuals’ wellbeing and development the University is rolling out Academic Line Management within Schools.
- Our Staff Summer Picnic was jointly hosted by the University Leadership Team and our Trade Unions. The event provided the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the year, meet new faces, and find out what’s happening across the University.
- The structure of our Long Service Awards has been adapted to celebrate staff reaching different milestones, appreciating the diversity of employment journeys and recognising more contributions to the success of the University over the years.
Completing the survey and confidentiality
All responses are confidential, and more information regarding this can be found below.
You will receive an email from an external company called People Insight on 3 November with a unique link where you can fill out the survey. If you have any issues with accessing the survey, please contact Tandrima Bhattacharjee.
All the data and responses shared through the survey are collected and analysed by People Insight, an external organisation entrusted to run the survey confidentially on behalf of the University. The reports produced from the results are grouped by demographics such as Schools/Professional Services, job families, length of service, etc.
Regardless of the demographic, if there are fewer than 10 responses in a group, they will not be reported on. This ensures that responses cannot be traced back to individuals, thereby protecting identities. Since the University will only get the reports, not the raw data, no one will be able to identify individuals based on their responses.
Frequently asked questions
Who are People Insight and why are they involved?
People Insight are independent employee engagement specialists with extensive experience of running employee surveys with other organisations both across the UK and internationally. They have been commissioned to run the survey on behalf of the University. The use of an organisation such as People Insight means we can ensure confidentiality, benchmark our results against others in the sector and learn from best practice.
Is the survey voluntary?
Yes, participating in the survey is completely voluntary. It is an opportunity to share your views and secure more of the outcomes that are important to you. We really welcome your feedback and hope that you will take part.
How long will it take to complete?
The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. It’s really easy: you select from the multiple-choice boxes to show the extent to which you agree or disagree with a number of statements. There is also the opportunity to write free text comments on anything you want us to know about.
Is the survey confidential?
Yes absolutely. One of the benefits of having an external organisation like People Insight administer the survey is that your responses are captured directly by People Insight and not the University. You can be completely honest with your responses without them being tracked back to you personally. People Insight administers the Employee Engagement Survey according to strict confidentiality policies.
People Insight will collect and analyse the data which will be shared in the form of reports – e.g. by department or school, by job family or length of service to help us better understand what matters most to people. Reports will only be produced when groups comprise of ten or more respondents.
When you are writing the free text comments, you will get the following notification: ‘Please take care when providing this feedback’. Please note that any comments that you make will be repeated verbatim in the feedback report from People Insight. Although they will not reveal the name of the person who provided the comments, you should consider whether you could be identified from your comments and, if so, whether you would wish to be. If you are concerned about this either before, or after writing your comments, please contact People Insight directly. Unless you directly or indirectly identify yourself within the comment sections your results will be anonymous to the University.
Can I amend my answers after I submit the survey?
If you have submitted your answers and would like to amend them, please contact support@peopleinsight.co.uk to let them know. People Insights can either reset the whole survey for you or reset the survey without deleting any data so you can make any amends from the start of the survey.
How will the survey be accessible to screen readers?
The online survey has been developed following best practices in accessibility and web standard compliance, and follows WCAG 2.0 AA recommendations whenever possible during the development of the survey. The usability has been tested using most common readers such as Jaws, NVDA or MacOS Voiceover. However, due to the wide range of available screen readers and their frequent changes and updates, different interpretation of standards and different methods available for browsing a web page within said readers, People Insight are unable to guarantee error free operation in all available readers and their versions. If you encounter a problem, please contact support@peopleinsight.co.uk
