Divyata Sohal has been awarded the Best PhD Student Award for her work on knowledge management audits at this year’s European Conference on Knowledge Management (ECKM).

Held in Barcelona this year, ECKM is generally attended by participants from more than 40 countries and attracts an interesting combination of academic scholars, practitioners and individuals who are engaged in various aspects of Knowledge Management. A number of journals including the Electronic Journal of Knowledge Management publish the results of research presented at this conference. The conference hosts a PhD and Master colloquium and also a competition for the Best Case History describing a successful KM application.

Divyata Sohal and Sharon Simatwo, SBE doctoral research students within the SBE’s Centre for Information Management, supervised respectively by Dr Gill Ragsdell and Prof Donald Hislop, and Prof Tom Jackson and Dr Gill Ragsdell, both presented their research. At the close of the conference, Divyata Sohal secured the Best PhD Student Award for her paper titled ‘Towards Sustainable Knowledge Management in High-Performance Sport’.

Upon receiving her award, Divyata commented:

"It has been an honour to receive this award as recognition for my study. There is great scope for the application and role of knowledge management in improving performance impact in high-performance sport and I now feel motivated to continue my efforts in the field. I am deeply grateful for the support and guidance I have received from my supervisors."

In addition, Charnwood Connect was judged to be the winner of the Knowledge Management (KM) and Intellectual Capital (IC) Excellence Awards, with the knowledge management activities of the European Patent Office and NASA being awarded second and third place, respectively. This is international recognition for a Big Lottery-funded project that was underpinned by knowledge management principles – Dr Gill Ragsdell was Project Advisor.   

Charnwood Connect aimed to encourage joint working between agencies to achieve more for service users and service providers in the Charnwood Borough. The lead partners were Citizens Advice Charnwood and The Bridge (East Midlands). Organisations who also took part in the two-year Big Lottery funded project included: Human Rights and Equalities Charnwood, Charnwood Borough Council, Living without Abuse, The Bridge, Centre for Information Management, John Storer Charnwood, Student Advice and Support Service, PACE, Charnwood CAB and Youth Shelter.

The winning case was presented by Dr Ragsdell and Paul Snape, Business Development Manager at The Bridge (East Midlands), on behalf of the Charnwood Connect partners.
