This programme aims to produce high quality Chinese graduates in the field of materials science and engineering, with enhanced English language skills and a Masters degree from a Top 10 UK University.

The Department of Materials at Loughborough University (UK), in partnership with the following 985 & 211 Project Top Universities from China, offers this programme within its range of undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses.

Successful applicants will be offered scholarships by Loughborough University.

The Loughborough-China Materials Partnership (LCMP) Programme is designed for students who have successfully completed three years of a materials relevant degree programme at selected Universities in China, and who now wish to broaden their experience, and go on to study at postgraduate level.

This is achieved by a two year programme. During the first year students study a combination of materials and language modules. In the second year, students register on one of the Masters programmes at the Department of Materials. Successful students are awarded an undergraduate degree from their Chinese University and a Master of Science degree from Loughborough University.

The first year:

  • English Language for Materials Engineering
  • Structures and Properties of Polymers
  • Polymers: Processing
  • Engineering Alloys
  • Composite Materials
  • Ceramics: Processing and Properties
  • Experimentation
  • Project and dissertation

Plus a choice of one of the following modules

  • Biomaterials (for Tissue Engineering)
  • Advanced Materials Characterisation

The second year:

  • MSc in Materials Science and Technology

or

  • MSc in Polymer Science and Technology

Entry Requirements

The programme is for third year students of a Materials relevant degree programme at one of our Partner Universities in China.

Candidates are required to pass IELTS 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in each part.

Applicants are considered on the basis of University exam results, together with interviews regarding both academic and English skills.

Successful applicants will be offered scholarships by Loughborough University.

New from 2018: PhD Studentships for students graduating from our 3+1+1 China Programme

Two Research Studentships for PhD will be available each year from October 2018 for the top-performing students from the 3+1+1 China Programme in the School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical & Materials Engineering. Students need to show aptitude for a Doctoral Programme at Loughborough University. The studentships will be awarded on a ‘tuition fees only’ basis; living costs will not be included.

Location - Loughborough and Loughborough University Campus

Loughborough University is located in the town of Loughborough in the heart of England, and is well served by road, rail and air. Main line road and rail network link Loughborough directly with the rest of the country. The local East Midlands Airport serves most major UK and European cities and many other international destinations. Nottingham is 20 minutes away, Birmingham 60 minutes and London and Manchester 90 minutes. Loughborough is a quiet British market town with lots of history and is famous for its bell foundry and textile heritage. Nearby Charnwood Forest and Beacon Hill are famous for their beautiful natural scenery with wide open parkland, and woodland.

Loughborough University is well known for its beautiful campus, which is home to about 16,000 full-time students, of which about 20% of them are from overseas. Loughborough University has the best sport facilities of any European University and was the official preparation camp for the 2012 TeamGB Olympic team. The Student Union is one of the largest in the UK and has a very wide range of clubs, societies and activities as well as a comprehensive programme of live entertainment. The University Career Centre and Language Centre offer students free services. A wide range of printed and online resources are available in University Library. Campus accommodation is available for both years of the LCMP programme and all rooms are equipped with internet and all the facilities that students require.
