Professor Critchlow will discuss some of the challenges facing key industrial sectors, including the aerospace and automotive industries, in making next-generation vehicles, including the need to eliminate the use of toxic hexavalent-chromium chemistry. Details will be given of how research carried out at Loughborough is addressing these significant challenges. The work carried out by Professor Critchlow on tailored, multifunctional surfaces, interfaces and coatings to create, for example, the best and worst bonding surfaces in the World, and their industrial importance will be detailed.
