Giving back to the community

Our work in the community impacts on individuals in so many ways; changing lives, inspiring people to get involved, and providing support for those in need.

Matt's Story

This is Matt. After completing a placement with the University through a local charity supporting vulnerable adults – Matt is now a permanent member of staff at the University and will never forget the moment that changed the direction of his life.

The Students’ Union organises many community projects across the region, which include woodland management days, litter-picking sessions, community fun days and tea dances for pensioners.

These events are designed to engage with the community, raise money for local charities, and support local schemes and causes.

We also support local groups and projects through the Community Donations Fund. To date, over £315,000 has been donated to a variety of local groups to help with varying aspects of their work.

We want to be a good citizen and a responsible neighbour so we are committed to developing good relationships with residents, Charnwood Borough Council, the Police and other authorities in the town.
