About the University

Working with the community

Contributing to the town and wider region

In addition to our student experience, research and enterprise and sporting ambitions, we also aim to make a significant contribution to the social and economic wellbeing of the town and the wider region.

With more than 3,950 members of staff, our University is the town’s largest employer. Add our student population of over 118,850 students to this, and you’ll see that we contribute significantly to the local economy.

A recent report highlighted how we help to drive growth locally, regionally and nationally; contributing £940 million GVA (Gross Value Added) to the UK economy as well as 14,400 jobs.

Benefitting from campus

Throughout the year the University and the Students’ Union organise a variety of events which are open to the local community to attend. These include the annual bonfire and firework display, a variety of musical and theatrical performances and a series of lectures by Loughborough academics and guest speakers.

For further information about what’s happening on campus see the events diary.
