Mechanical, Manufacturing and Robotics Engineering

We have an international reputation for the quality of our courses and the graduates produced. With excellent links with industry and focused content you will learn the skills and knowledge to build a successful career.

Why choose Mechanical, Manufacturing or Robotics Engineering at Loughborough?

Our Mechanical Engineering and Robotics Engineering courses blend engineering science with mechanisms, sensors and machines. Manufacturing Engineering combines manufacturing technologies and processes with management principles.

We have a great mix of mechanical, manufacturing and robotics engineering courses to choose from

...all of which are accredited

All courses are fully accredited by one or more of the following Engineering Council licensed awarding bodies: Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Plus, we also offer a foundation route

Our degree courses are provided with a Foundation Studies route option. This presents the opportunity for students from a wide variety of backgrounds, but with inappropriate qualifications, to transfer onto the degree course of choice, after completing a year of dedicated preparatory modules.

You'll have the opportunity to go on a placement year

We are the UK’s number one university for engineering placements, with 30% more students on year-long placements than any other university (HESA 2015/16, for Engineering and Technology).

The School is notified of vacancies and opportunities throughout the academic year, providing help and support in gaining a suitable placement.

...and the chance to study abroad for a year

All students on the MEng courses have the opportunity to study abroad in their third or final academic year. If suitable for international study then this will lead to the award of a Diploma in International Studies (DIntS). A network of engineering departments from around 30 institutions throughout Europe cooperate in the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).

There are lots of exciting career opportunities

Recent graduates are now employed by BAE Systems, Bentley Motors, Bosch, BMW, Caterpillar, DSTL, GE Aviation, Jaguar Land Rover, JCB, Lloyds Register, McLaren Automotive, Mondelez, PA Consulting, PSV Vauxhall, Renishaw, Rolls Royce, Triumph, Unilever, and many others.

You may be eligible for sponsorship or a scholarship

All courses have an established reputation with employers in industry. Companies, therefore, target the School with sandwich year opportunities and a number of companies offer sponsorship, for which there is intense competition. Students seeking sponsorship are urged to consult publications such as CRAC and Engineering Opportunities. For more details please see our website or visit our Fees and Financial Support Serivces.

Students studying Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering degree courses, and intending to take up a career in the Armed Forces or Civil Service, may be eligible for financial support under the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme.

You'll have access to our great facilities

There are laboratories for disciplines such as additive manufacturing, design, electronics, IC engines, manufacturing technologies, control, materials, mechatronics, metrology, optical engineering, programming, robotics, structural integrity, tribology, and many others.

Our CNC machine tool workshops and manufacturing facilities are managed by skilled technical staff, who will work closely with you to develop ideas and support project work.
