Your first days
Expect to be pushed out of your comfort zone. University is a place to meet lots of new and interesting people, to push yourself both academically and socially.
Every student has a unique experience but as Loughborough has been awarded the Best Student Experience for 6 consecutive years by Times Higher Education and been declared Britain’s Top University for Quality of Student Life by Lloyds bank survey we’re confident you’ll have the time of your life.
Here’s a brief overview of what to expect for your first week at Loughborough University.
Collect your accommodation keys
Students living on campus will be given an arrival date. We have staggered arrivals, as this enables us to allocate a parking space to you and provide any necessary assistance on the day.
More information on the arrival day can be found here.
Collect your student ID cards
It’s important to collect your student ID card as soon as possible, as this completes the registration process and ensures you are officially enrolled as a student at Loughborough University.
For students who are living on campus you will be able to collect your student ID card from your hall of residence. More information on where to collect your student ID card can be found here.
Attend your induction
You will be invited to attend an induction for your course. This will give you the opportunity to meet fellow students who will be on your course, to meet key members of staff within the department and explore the facilities you’ll be able to use.
Check out the full list of undergraduate induction dates.
Freshers’ week will run from Monday 25 September - Saturday 7 October and will consist of a Sports Bazaar which will be held on Saturday 30 September 2017, a Student Activities Bazaar which will be held on Sunday 1 October 2017 and a Freshers' Ball which will be held on Saturday 7 October 2017. These events are a fantastic opportunity to see what clubs and societies are available to join. You’ll also get the opportunity to speak with current students and get an insight into what life as a student is like here at Loughborough.
Make sure you check out the Loughborough Sport Freshers Website for everything sport related in the run up to fresher’s week. This includes more information on gym membership offers, AU Trials, quizzes and much more!
Loughborough Sport also has loads of opportunities for people who aren't competitive or want to get involved in other ways such as coaching and volunteering, make sure you visit the freshers site to see what might suit you.
Explore the campus
We always recommend new students to take some time to explore the campus. See what facilities we have which you can take advantage of and explore the beautiful woodlands. There are lots of walks on campus, and if you like exploring this is the perfect time to lead an expedition.
Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU)
Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) will be arranging lots of events during Freshers’ Week to make sure you get a taste for what Loughborough has to offer. The LSU will release a short guide to freshers nearer to the time.
A good way of meeting new friends is to throw yourself into everything the university has to offer, and this includes the nightlife.
This is a great way to meet new friends and get a feel for the community on campus.
Prepare for your first week
If you can, it’s a good opportunity to read any books or course material which you will need to read for your first week of University. Getting a head start and being prepared is always a good thing and it shows that you’re prepared and serious about your studies.
During your first week, you’ll also be allocated a peer mentor. Your mentor will be a fellow student, allowing you to ask any questions in confidence. More information regarding the Peer Support scheme can be found here.
