FAQs

How do I know which courses are suitable for me?

Take a look at our course A-Z to see all of the courses we offer and begin identifying which ones might relevant. Once you have a few ideas you should have a discussion with your line manager, perhaps as part of your PDR, so that you can come up with a development plan together.

In some instances it may be that a course is not the best way to develop, in which case there are plenty of alternative development routes you can take. Have a look at our other development options section for more information.

Who can attend courses?

All staff can attend courses, but you need to read the course details carefully as some courses are designed specifically for targeted groups. We also have arrangements in place for key University partners to access training and development where appropriate.

How do I book onto a course?

The majority of our courses are managed through my.HR. you will need to log in to view and manage your learning account. This can be accessed by clicking the book onto a course button to the right.

Do I have to pay?

Loughborough University staff can attend the majority of our courses free of charge. However, some accredited courses have a fee attached, this will be highlighted upon booking.

Where are courses held?

The majority of our courses take place in the Rutland Building but it is important you read the email you receive upon booking a course carefully, as it contains important information regarding the location, time and date. 

What if I have to cancel my place?

You will need to visit my.HR and cancel yourself from the course. We ask that you do this as soon as possible as last minute cancellations impact the course costs as we have to order resources, refreshments etc in advance. If you are unable to access my.HR on the day of the course then please contact us.

If you fail to turn up for a course your record will show as "non-attend"and your manager will be informed.

How are courses evaluated?

After completing most of our courses you will receive an email containing a link to an online feedback form. This gives you opportunity to provide anonymous feedback on the course content, quality of training and the administration we provide. We appreciate you taking the time to complete these, particularly if there are aspects of the course or event that need attention. If you want to pass on comments at any stage, please contact us.

Do you keep a record of training I've completed?

You can find a record of all the training you have completed by logging into my.HR, clicking on the learning tab and selecting 'all' from the drop down menu. This information will automatically show up in the online PDR system to assist with your preparations for PDR discussion.

What other services do you provide?

In order to provide development opportunities in topics that are not covered in our core training programme we offer tailored and bespoke services. We work with schools and professional services, along with the teams, departments and support sections within them. If you have a training or development need that you would like to discuss, please get in touch. 

Why are there no dates showing when I search for a course on my.HR?

This could be due to a spelling mistake, double check you have spelt the course name correctly. If you are unsure of the course name try typing the *, followed by a key word(s).

Your search may also produce no dates if the course(s) is fully booked, this means you won't be able to book onto the course itself but you will be able to add your name to a waiting list. As soon as additional dates are programmed all those on the waiting list will automatically be added and receive confirmation.
