FAQs

How do I know which courses are suitable for me?

The 'Planning your development' section of this website will help you to identify what training and development would help you progress. Once you have some ideas, you should first discuss these with your line manager. Once you’ve agreed your development plan, you can browse our courses by 'topic', or search for 'development suitable for your role'. You might decide that a course is not the best way to develop, in which case, check out 'other development options'.

Who can attend courses?

All staff can attend courses, but you need to read the course details carefully as some courses are designed specifically for targeted groups. We also have arrangements in place for key University partners to access training and development where appropriate.

How do I apply for courses?

Just click the 'Book on a course' button on the right to view your log in options. The majority of our courses are managed through the my.HR system so please log in to view and manage your Learning account.

Do I have to pay?

Loughborough University staff can attend the majority of our courses free of charge. However, some accredited course options will have a fee attached to them. This is clearly stated in the course information.

Where are courses held?

Please read the email containing details for your attendance carefully, as this will tell you the location for your training.

What if I have to cancel my place?

We understand that diaries change and that sometimes you have to drop out of a course that you've signed up for.

If this happens please visit my.HR as soon as you can and cancel yourself from the course. If you are unable to access my.HR on the day of the course then please let us know by email at: sd@lboro.ac.uk

If you fail to turn up for a course your record will show as "non-attend" on my.HR.

How are courses evaluated?

At the end of virtually all sessions we distribute a link to an online form. This gives you opportunity to provide feedback on the course content, quality of training and the administration we provide. We do appreciate your taking the time to complete these, particularly if there are aspects of the event that need attention. If you want to pass on comments at any stage, please do contact us via the online feedback form, or email or phone us.

Do you keep a record of training I've completed?

If you are preparing for your Performance and Development Review (PDR) discussion, or simply updating your C.V. you can generate a report of the courses you have attended in any given period from my.HR, 'View Learning Record'.

Information held on course attendance is kept confidential.

What other services do you provide?

Staff Development is keen to help in areas that are not covered by the open programme. We offer tailored services to teams, departments and support sections. If you have a training or development need that you would like to discuss, please get in touch and we will assist where we can.
