University’s staff volunteering effort rewarded

26 July 2012

Scouts, Church groups, sports clubs and a pre-school are just some of the lucky organisations to have received awards in the latest round of funding from Loughborough University’s Community Donations Fund.

The groups – 12 in total – were awarded £5000 between them.  Members of University staff involved in the groups applied for support from the Inside Out Fund, a category of the overall Community Donations Fund established specifically to support their volunteering efforts.

Staff working in a range of academic and administrative departments submitted bids and the groups and projects receiving support are:

77th Leicester (Bradgate) Scout Group

To buy tents and equipment for family camp

Charnwood Christmas Toy Appeal

To help buy presents for needy children across Charnwood

Charnwood Disability Forum

To help produce an accessibility guide for Loughborough

Charnwood Ringing Group

Friends of St Mary’s

The members of staff receiving awards were presented with their cheques by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Shirley Pearce at a small ceremony held on campus earlier this month.

Since the Community Donations Fund was established 38 members of staff have been awarded grants from the Donations Fund, rewarding the many hours of volunteering that take place out of normal working hours.

The Community Donations Fund will be in operation again for the academic year 2012/2013 and details of the funds and the deadlines for submission of bids are available on the University website.  Community groups interested in applying should visit:  www.lboro.ac.uk/community for further information.
