University welcomes community to History and Heritage event

1 June 2015

Loughborough University and Charnwood Museum are inviting members of the local community to attend their History and Heritage Community Day later this month.

The ‘Future of the Past’ event will include fascinating short talks from local authors and historians, a guided tour of the historical Loughborough University campus and also panel discussions.

The community day takes place at Burleigh Court at the Loughborough University Campus on Sunday 21 June from 10:30am – 4:30pm.

Stands and displays from local history and heritage groups including Charnwood Roots, Kegworth Museum, Leicestershire Industrial History society and many more will also be present.

Confirmed speakers include former County Archaeologist Peter Liddle, authors Dave Postle and Marianne Whiting, East Midlands History Archive manager Colin Hyde and Professor Alison Yarrington.

Accredited Leicestershire Tour Guide Ernie Miller will be leading the tours across the University Campus. The Mayor and Mayoress of Charnwood will also be attending the local community day.

Dr Robert Knight, from the Department of Politics, History and International Relations, said: “This will be a great occasion for local history groups, and anyone interested in history to catch up with what's going on historically in the area and talk about its future direction.

“There'll be a range of interesting speakers, stalls and authors talking about their books, as well as a historical tour of the campus. All welcome!”

The event is free to attend and everyone is welcome, refreshment and bar meals will be on sale throughout the day.
