Charnwood Arts and Loughborough students collaborate in textiles exhibition

24 June 2015

Local community group Charnwood Arts is currently showcasing their ‘Our Knitted Story’ exhibition at Loughborough’s Charnwood Museum Gallery.

The project includes everything from knitting to embroidery to soft sculpture and explores connections, bonds and memories through generations and across cultures.

First year textiles students from the University’s School of the Arts were set a challenge to respond to the exhibition’s theme by Loughborough MA student Sarah Green. Over 70 students produced work as part of their coursework and samples by 15 students are currently in the exhibition. Items and quotes from members of craft groups and people who craft alone are also on show.

The focus of the project is on the history of hand-crafting and brings together memories of knitting, crocheting and other textile based activities from the local community.

The exhibition continues until Sunday 5 July at Charnwood Museum. Entrance is free and the show will be open during the usual Charnwood Museum opening hours.
