About us
We exist to provide assistance and to offer support to students, staff and visitors at the University. Our main function is to ensure, as far as is possible, the personal safety
of students, staff and visitors; the security of University buildings and other property; the protection of personal property and the control of traffic and parking
Operations
The Security Leadership team consists of Stuart Christie, (Manager), Stuart Kirkland and Mick Wood (Security Service Managers).
In addition, 5 Security Supervisors, each with a team of Security Patrol Officers, operate on a continuous shift pattern to provide cover for the University and Halls of Residences. The officers are deployed on a patrol and response basis, performing foot and mobile patrols throughout the campus. In addition at night during term time we also patrol the main road leading from the University to the town centre and some residential areas that have a high student population. Trained first aiders are available on all shifts
Three support/clerical staff provide administrative support and a public enquiry office function dealing with lost and found property and the issue of parking permits.
Control Room
The Control Room operates 24 hours a day, every day, and is located in the Security Building. The Control Room staff operate a two-way radio system, monitor alarms, CCTV and acts as the primary line of communication into the Section for members of the university and the link to the emergency services.
CCTV
A comprehensive CCTV Camera system operates throughout the University campus. The cameras are monitored and the images are recorded digitally in accordance with the Data Protection principles. Stills pictures can be acquired from the video image if required. Video Records can be used as evidence of crimes committed against University Staff, Students, Visitors or property. The cameras, in conjunction with two-way radios, are used to great effect, directing security staff to incidents, observing, following and apprehending intruders, or suspected criminals.

Crimes and incidents should be reported to the Police, on 0116 222 2222. We will support staff, students or visitors contacting the police and provide assistance in the investigation.
