Community groups receive University funding for projects

Community activities ranging from CPR training to gardening have been supported by Loughborough University in its latest round of community donations.

The annual Community Donation Fund Programme has supported community and voluntary groups through its Open Fund. The Open Fund is just one of five categories that make up the programme.

For the third year running, Loughborough University has made £10,000 available to support local groups with their projects.

The groups and projects receiving support included:

Serenade Choir

To fund purchase of music for forthcoming concerts

Maplewell School

Fund trip to residential multi-activity camp

Good Shepherd Parent and Toddler Group

New play mats and toys

Change Support Group

Trip to Shepshed Water Mill

Carillon Radio

New equipment for radio stations

Shepshed Alley Group

Trampoline coaching qualification

Leslie Edwards Trust

Lip reading evening classes

Aspire Club

Funding for summer fun playscheme

The community groups receiving awards were presented with their cheques by the University’s Chief Operating Officer, Richard Taylor. The event took place in the Town Hall, Loughborough and was attended by Charnwood Borough Council Mayor Paul Day, Mayoress Pauline Day and other local guests and dignitaries.

Richard Taylor, Chief Operating Officer said: “The University is delighted to be able to support local groups across Charnwood for another year running. It’s great that we can learn about the amazing projects taking place in our local area and also support them.

“We wish everyone the greatest success with their projects and ventures.”
