Football fans wanted for European research project

Researchers at Loughborough University are looking for passionate football fans to share their experiences and opinions of the sport’s governance.

Whether you support a professional team, play for a local club or are involved behind the scenes, Loughborough researchers want to hear from you.

Participants should be between 18 and 65 years old and should have involvement in football as a supporter, player, volunteer or administrator at any level from grass roots to professional.

Those taking part will be asked to record their football experiences through photos and a written or audio diary over a four-week period, and will be invited to an interview with researchers.

The Loughborough study is part of the Europe-wide FREE project (Football Research in an Enlarged Europe) which spans eight countries, and aims to better understand the role of football Europe, and how it shapes people’s identities and culture.

Loughborough project lead Dr Borja Garcia from the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, said:

“This is an exciting project that will give us an important insight into what fans and volunteers on the ground think about how the game is run.

“We are looking to recruit a wide range of football supporters to this study so our findings are representative. We’re interested to hear people’s accounts and find out what really matters to them.”

Anyone interested in taking part should email freeproject@lboro.ac.uk with details of the club they support, any related groups or organisations they are a member of, and how often they attend matches. Alternatively details can be submitted via this form.
