Cathy Hart is a Senior Lecturer in Retailing and Operations Management at the School of Business and Economics at Loughborough University. Originally a textile design graduate from Loughborough University School of the Arts, Cathy was a marketing manager in the textile, fashion and retail industries for 11 years before joining the School.
Since joining the School in 1992 as the Sainsbury Retail Fellow, Cathy has held various management responsibilities including Director of the Retail Management Programme and is Placements Director for the School. Cathy lectures in retailing and operations management and logistics / Supply Chain Management to undergraduate students at BSc level and post-graduate delegates at MSc and MBA levels.
Cathy is a member of the Marketing and Retailing Research Group, and has published and presented widely in the areas of retail skills development, and retail image in marketing and retail journals including The European Journal of Marketing, The Journal of Marketing Management, The Service Industries Journal, The International Journal of Retail and Distribution Management and the International Review of Retail, Distribution and Consumer Research.
She is on the editorial advisory board for the British Food Journal. In 2005 Cathy secured funding from and led the LSC / Skillsmart Retail funded project Buying into Retail (Phase 2), researching the Skills, Training and Business issues in the East Midlands retail industry.
Cathy has developed close working links and partnerships within the retail industry and retail education. She has co-edited and authored two books of cases in retail management, both sponsored by The Consortium of Retail Training Companies (CORTCO). She has held a number of roles on industry steering committees including the National Retail Training Council (NRTC); the Retail E-Commerce Task Force, Foresight Programme, DTI, the Retail Innovation Group (DTI).
Cathy was appointed HE representative on the Board of the Retail Sector Skills Council, Skillsmart Retail for 2002-2004, and served on various retail qualifications steering groups. Cathy currently chairs the Consortium of Retail Universities and is an Associate Member of The American Collegiate Retailing Association. She is External Examiner at the Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD); having held external examining roles at Heriot Watt, Bournemouth, Surrey, Manchester Metropolitan, Oxford Brookes and De Montfort Universities.
