Ian R Stopps CBE Chairman The McLean Partnership |

Full Bio >> Ian Stopps is Chairman of The McLean Partnership, a specialist executive search practice in financial services; property and support services; aerospace, defence and security; and board advisory. He is also Chairman of Arundel Aerospace & Defence Systems (AADS), a provider of mission critical components in aerospace; defence; medical; automotive; transportation; and oil and gas. He is a member of the Court of Cranfield University and on the Advisory Board of British American Business (BAB). Ian was Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin UK from 1999-2009. In addition to his responsibilities to the six-member Lockheed Martin UK Board of Directors, Ian also served on the board of other Lockheed Martin UK companies, the Council of the Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC), the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), and the UK Council for Electronic Business (UKCeB). Ian was the Chairman of the London-New York based British American Business (BAB) from 2003-2005 and was appointed a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS) in 2005. Previous roles include President of Lockheed Martin’s Western Europe Region, President Martin Marietta International - European Region, General Manager GE Aerospace – Europe, General Manager Dynamic Products at BF Goodrich in Ohio, USA. Born in Kent, Ian earned a first class degree with honours in Mechanical Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology. He remains a member of ASME and IMechE, having contributed to, and published, several papers in these associations. Ian was appointed CBE for services to the UK Aerospace & Defence Industry in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List, June 2003. |

Stuart Chapman Managing Partner DFJ Esprit |

Full Bio >> Stuart graduated from Loughborough with a BSc in Banking and Finance and now works in venture capital funding with DFJ Esprit. Prior to joining Esprit in February 2005 Stuart was a Partner of 3i Ventures. He was also a founding partner of 3i US, based in Menlo Park, CA. Stuart had 13 years of venture capital experience with 3i in Europe and the USA. While he was at 3i US he was responsible for 3i’s investments in Still Secure, CollegeNet and Appshop. Following his return from the US in October 2003 he was responsible for 3i’s investments in The Cloud, Telecity and Searchspace, the IPO of Pixology and the sale of Magic 4 to Openwave. Stuart is a member of the British Venture Capital Association Council. Prior to 3i, Stuart was involved in software and systems implementations in the Banking sector. |

Chris Day General Manager, London and Head of Leveraged Finance Commerzbank |

Full Bio >> Chris was appointed General Manager of Commerzbank London in November 2010 with responsibilities for overseeing the London office, ensuring CB London complies with all relevant regulatory and corporate governance guidelines and supporting the growth of business in London. In addition Chris is the Global Head of the Leveraged Finance Division which has teams based in Frankfurt and London. Chris's responsibilities include overseeing the origination of sponsor-driven debt product, the relationships with the financial sponsor client base, Commerzbank's LBO debt fund management and the management of Commerzbank's LBO portfolio. Chris joined Commerzbank, Frankfurt in October 1998 to establish a leveraged finance operation, prior to that he was the Director of Leveraged Finance at HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt Düsseldorf for two years. Previously to that Chris worked in the Specialised Financing Division of Samuel Montagu & Co. Ltd, later HSBC Investment Banking. Chris’ first role was with Midland Bank Corporate Bank/ Forward Trust Leasing for five years which he moved to after graduating from Loughborough University of Technology, with a BSc in Banking and Finance. Chris is an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. |

Jan Gower Vice President of Civil Government IBM UK |

Full Bio >> Jan graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc in Ergonomics and a Diploma in Professional Studies. She also attended the Senior Executive Programme at London Business School in 1994. Jan is Vice President of Civil Government at IBM UK and leads the IBM Government team across consulting, systems integration, outsourcing, hardware and software. Before taking on her current role, she led IBM’s Civil Government consulting business. She has twenty seven years experience working with public sector organisations, both leading large teams and providing strategic Board level advice. As a consultant, her work has focused on transformation, particularly enabling change through the introduction of new major systems and ways of working. Jan is also Executive sponsor of IBM’s community of people with disabilities. Her objectives in this role are to create an environment where people with disabilities want to come and work for IBM and that the organisation, at every level, is supportive of employees who are disabled, so that they can achieve their full potential. Jan was President of the Management Consultancies Association, the body which represents the management consulting industry, from 2009 to 2010. |

Full Bio >> Richard was educated at the Universities of London, Nottingham and Loughborough obtaining a Degree in Law and French, and a MBA. He joined Rolls-Royce in 1979 having spent several years working in the education sectors of England and France. Richard has been involved in developing learning strategies for Rolls-Royce, its customers and supply chain. He was responsible for establishing and developing the Rolls-Royce Learning and Development System, while outside the company he has provided consultancy support to customers and international government departments in 45 countries around the world. He has developed particularly strong associations in China in respect of executive education. He is a management consultant to Business in the Arts, a former adviser to the Government on international education and training and Chairman of Human Resources for the Society of British Aerospace Companies. In 2000 and 2009 he was honoured by the Chinese Government with honorary professorships for his work in the development of managers and executives in a range of Chinese ministries and commissions. In the Middle East region he has been instrumental in the Rolls-Royce association with the British University in Dubai and with the Tawteen initiative in the UAE. He has presented a range of papers at international conferences linking education and training to corporate performance. |

Full Bio >> Paul left school at the age of 16 and started his own business 2 years later. Paul was the Managing Director of The Print People Group in Leicester for fifteen years leaving in 1998. The Group became one of the most successful printing companies in the UK during this period. In 1996 he graduated from Loughborough University with an MBA (with distinction) and a Diploma in Marketing. He is a Chartered Marketer, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing and a Fellow of the Institute of Direct Marketing. In 2000 Paul founded Richmond Capital Partners, now a leading provider of merger & acquisition services, together with strategic advice on joint ventures and strategic alliances. Paul has been published in academic journals for his work on strategic alliances. He is a former Chair of Leicester College – a further education college specialising in vocational training. He has almost 40 years experience in industry. |

Full Bio >> Alan is an alumnus of the Henley Management College, an e a Director at Capital One Bank (Europe) plc, a Visiting Lecturer at Warwick Business School, and Chair of the International Advisory Board at Leeds University Business School. His experience as an executive and non-executive director spans both the public and private sectors. He has served as the Chief Executive of First Direct Bank; Chairman of the National Identity Scheme Assurance Group; Member of the Cabinet Office Delivery Council; Non-Executive Director and Audit Committee member of the Identity and Passport Service; visiting lecturer at INSEAD France, the Saïd Business School Oxford and Warwick University; and a member of the Leeds University Business School Advisory Board. He has also worked as General Manager (Marketing) at HSBC. He has twice been awarded Outstanding MBA Teacher of the Year (2008 and 2009) by Warwick University, and is a fellow of both the Royal Society of Arts and the Institute of Financial Services. |

Full Bio >> Nigel graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc hons degree in Accounting & Financial Management . He joined KPMG working in Information Technology before joining KPMG's Innovation Centre. After time spent on innovation projects, Nigel worked in KPMG's business incubator unit before finally joining KPMG's Private Equity Group, where he worked as an Associate Partner advising Private Equity firms. Nigel has worked on over 130 transactions across Europe, North America, South America, South Africa and the Far East. Nigel specialises in IT matters related to buyside, sellside, carve out and post deal integration. As a visiting fellow to Loughborough University, Nigel has been a guest lecturer to undergraduates in the School Business & Economics. Nigel also acts as mentor and provider of "Dragons Den" style workshops on the Managing Innovation module of the MBA programme. |

Full Bio >> Malcolm joined University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust as Chief Executive in 2008. He was previously Chief Executive of King’s College Hospital Foundation Trust, Chief Executive of the Peterborough Hospitals Trust and an adviser to the former Commission for Health Improvement from 2002 to 2004. Malcolm has been Vice Chairman of the Programme Board of the Service and Delivery Organisation Programme of the National Institute of Health Research Programmes 2001-9, the Chair of the Chief Executive’s Research Forum since 2003 and became a member of the Implementation Board for the National Institute for Health Research in 2006. Malcolm was a Director of the Picker Institute 2007-9 and a Director of the NIHR RISC Programme 2007-10. Malcolm is currently a member of the Advisory Council of the King’s Fund, a member of the Life Sciences Innovation Delivery Board, HEFCE’s Health Education Advisory Committee and is a Trustee of the Thomas Cook Children’s Charity. |

Full Bio >> Stuart graduated from Loughborough University with a BSc in Management Sciences and is co-founder of ByBox, Europe’s leading dropbox logistics company. ByBox is one of the fastest growing technology companies in the UK and was ranked number 1 in the Deloitte Fast50 in 2008. ByBox is headquartered in Oxfordshire and was awarded Oxfordshire Business of the Year 2008. Stuart was also awarded Oxfordshire Business Person of the Year 2008. Stuart has spear-headed ByBox’ growth from a start-up in January 2000 to a turnover of £40 million today. ByBox leads the UK market for dropbox logistics in the field service sector and recently launched myByBox: a ground-breaking dropbox solution for Internet deliveries. Outside the UK, ByBox provides dropbox logistics in France and the Benelux. Stuart is also on the board of the Oxfordshire Local Enterprise Partnership – a Government initiative to generate economic growth through public-private partnerships. |

Full Bio >> Jim Murphy is a Non Executive Director of Simons Group Limited and a Lay Member of the Council of Loughborough University. He was educated at St. Edwards College, Liverpool and at Loughborough University where he graduated with the degrees of B.Tech. and M.Sc. After a variety of Personnel and consulting roles, he joined The Burton Group in the early 1980`s, moving to Debenhams on its takeover in 1985 where he served as a director specialising in Retail, Property and International. Full Bio >> Mark graduated from Loughborough with a BSc in Banking and Finance and an MPhil from the Department of Social Sciences. Mark has established his own management consultancy business providing advice on strategy to banks and other financial institutions. Prior to this he was Chief Executive of Heritable Bank Plc for 8 years and Chief Executive of Sun Bank Plc for 7 years. He has been a UK Board Director of Sun Life Financial of Canada and spent his early career at Midland Bank. He has served on the Boards of 36 Companies in the UK and Channel Islands. Mark is currently President of the Loughborough University Alumni Association, Loughborough University Council Member and serves on the Advancement and Finance Committees. He is also a Court Assistant and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers and Chairman of the Charity and Education Committee. He is a Freeman of the City of London. He has been Chairman of the British Bankers Association Smaller Banks Advisory Group, a member of the BBA Board and Chairman of the British Icelandic Chamber of Commerce. David Sparkes Chief Executive Amateur Swimming Association |

Full Bio >> David Sparkes was appointed in 1994 having previously served on several National Committees including the ASA Coach Certificate Committee, the ASA Education Committee where he was Chairman for 5 years, and the ASA Committee. He is a fully qualified Swimming Coach and has successfully produced swimmers at County, District and National level. David has played a fundamental role in planning the future development of the sport, including the appointment of a National Performance Director, with the aim of establishing Swimming in this country as a world power in International Swimming. His contribution to the sport is very wide indeed, he is the author of a book - Swimming for All - and has contributed to a number of other publications on the sport. Prior to his position with ASA, David pursued a business career through his own engineering company for a number of years. |

Professor Angus Laing BA(Hons) MA, MBA, PhD Dean of Business and Economics |

Full Bio >> Professor Angus Laing is Dean of Business and Economics at Loughborough University. Prior to this he was Professor of Management and Head of School of the University of Glasgow Business School. He previously held the Beneficial Bank Chair of Marketing at the Open University Business School where he was Director of Research. At Glasgow he played a leading role in securing AACSB accreditation for the School, developing a network of international partnerships and building links with communities of practice. Professor Laing’s research interests centre on the consumption and delivery of professional services in contemporary societies. As part of this activity he has lead successive ESRC-funded studies of the impact of the information revolution on service consumption and a major Department of Health project on patient use of e-health services. He has published on issues of service consumption and management across public and private sectors in a range of academic and professional journals, as well as contributing to texts on services marketing and consumption. This research activity is complemented by an extensive range of management development and consultancy work undertaken with a range of public and private sector organisations. Recent professional involvement includes: Associate Editor for the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing; member of the Editorial Board for the European Journal of Management, the Journal of Services Marketing and the Journal of Marketing Management. Angus is currently Chair of the Association of Business Schools (ABS). |

Full Bio >> Keith Pond is a former Manager with Midland Bank and was Midland Group Visiting Fellow at Loughborough University from 1986 to 1989. Keith's banking experience covers branch banking, problem lending and research project management. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, a member of Institute of Credit Management and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Keith also holds external examining and visiting lecturer posts in the UK and abroad. A full-time Lecturer in Banking and Economics since 1991, he has also been involved in an EU project to establish a banking faculty in Kyiv, Ukraine, and an Erasmus intensive programme in banking and finance with partners from Liechtenstein and other EU countries. He teaches on the School of Business and Economics' Singapore programme. Keith has researched extensively into personal and corporate insolvency, as well as debt counselling, payments systems, SME lending by banks and student self assessment. Keith holds a PhD based on personal insolvency research. He has published widely in the academic and professional press and is the author of a number of books about retail banking. Keith has also designed and written distance learning materials for two professional institutes and had produced teaching case studies in written and video media. |

Full Bio >> Professor Jim Saker is the Director of the Centre for Automotive Management and is the Ford Industrial Chair of Retail Management, and he has a close working relationship with the automotive sector. He has been involved with the automotive industry for 20 years and was a co-founder of the MIRA Business Unit in 1992. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 he was placed in the Automotive Industry Power 100, a listing of the top most influential people in the sector, and he is a member of the UK Government’s Leadership and Management Panel. His research interests lie in the area of channel power relationships and strategic developments in the motor industry. |

Full Bio >> Cheryl began her appointment at Loughborough in April 1993, following two years as Research Fellow in the Centre for Organizational Research at the London Business School (1991 to 1993). During her time at Loughborough she has held Research Project Co-ordinator MBA 1993-1997; Director for MBA in Information and Library Management (Development) 1995-1997; and more recently Director of Doctoral Training 1997-2006. She has also been a member of the University Ethical Committee. Cheryl is a member of the Human Resource Management and Organisational Behaviour Research Group and her research interests and publications have mainly been in the areas of occupational stress, management of change, women in management and the impact of personality type and political skills and behaviour on adaptation to work. She has written two books, Teachers Under Pressure: Stress in the Teaching Profession, with Cary Cooper (1996) and Occupational Health: The Challenge of Workplace Stress with Schabracq, M., Cooper, C. & van Maanen, D (2001). She consults in most areas of management development (especially team-building and development, stress management and the management of change), to clients in both the public and private sectors. |
