Research in the MEC explores the fundamental processes involved in learning mathematics, and analyses pedagogical practice including teaching, learning and assessment. In the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, our research activity was judged to be of an exceptionally high quality: 85% was deemed to be “world leading” or “internationally excellent”, the fifth highest of any UK education department.
The Centre has two interest groups which form the focus of our research activity.
Analysis of pedagogical practice including teaching, learning and assessment.
Discovering how students understand mathematics.
