The Department has a wide range of interests within Economics including Macroeconomics, Monetary Economics, International Economics, Microeconomics, Industrial Organisation, Banking and Financial Markets, Transport Economics and Applied Econometrics.
The 25 academic staff in the Department are invited by governments and companies throughout the world to give advice on current policy issues. Our research is widely published and internationally recognised. In the External Subject Review of Teaching Quality the Department was awarded an excellent 23/24.
Our graduates enjoy a high rate of employment in a diverse range of careers. There is an increasing demand for computer-literate graduates and all our programmes introduce you to specialist economics software and relevant industrial and commercial software through hands-on experience in a purpose-built computer laboratory.
You will develop specialised knowledge of finance, money, government policy and the global economy. You will understand how to interpret and apply statistical and other evidence about the economic consequences of industrial, political, social and environmental change. You will learn how to construct and apply models of markets, organisations and the whole economy and how to evaluate their use in practice.
