Policy Statement on the award of the Certificate of Higher Education or Diploma of Higher Education to students exiting from degree programmes
The Academic Registry will routinely write to all students who withdraw from their degree programme having accumulated sufficient credit for the Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education to offer the award of the Certificate or Diploma.
The Registry will be authorised to issue certificates for these qualifications on the evidence of sufficient credit for the relevant qualification having been awarded by the Programme Board, notwithstanding the fact that the Board might have expected the student to be continuing on their degree programme.
Students who have already accumulated sufficient credit for the Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education but whose studies are terminated by the Programme Board at the next stage of their programme because of assessment failure will be recorded by the Programme Board as having passed for the award of the Certificate or Diploma. The Academic Registry will routinely issue certificates on the basis of such Pass Lists. The Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education will not be offered to students taking leave of absence.
A School/Department may exercise discretion whether to re-admit a student who has withdrawn from a degree programme while in good standing.
Re-admission on the same programme will normally be permitted, provided that the programme structure or content has not substantially changed in the interim. Other changes in circumstances, such as the availability of places, will be taken into account. The student's acceptance of the Certificate or Diploma of Higher Education will not prejudice the decision over their re-admission.
