Visiting Student Graduates

12 December 2016

We were pleased to learn that one of our visiting Master's students, Mr Andres Burbano, has recently graudted and won a scholarship to study for his PhD with Professor Victor Rangel in Mexico. Andres spent three months with us in 2016 and was able to write his first journal paper based on the results obtained during his stay. His stay was partially funded by Loughborough University, the British Council Newton Links fund and an award from CONYCYT via his home university.

The 5G Research centre at Loughborough hosts visiting scholars and students and help them to do great things in industry and academia. We like to think that some of the ideas we are devoping will be included in the next 5G standard.

Here is a short summary from our visiting student.

As an Ecuadorian master’s student from the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the knowledge and insight that I was able to obtain by participating in the project “Massive Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET’s), MIMO in VANETS” are beyond measure. The experience has been amazing not only academically but professionally and personally as well.

As a participant of the project, I had the opportunity to share and learn from academics and researches from different countries, who guided me every day through the tasks that I was assigned and whose support was crucial in order to achieve the expected results. Moreover, these results were essential for successfully finishing my master’s thesis, obtaining my master’s degree with honours and even writing my first journal paper.

Additionally, as part of the project, I had the opportunity of working at the 5G Research Centre from Loughborough University in the UK, as an international visiting student. At the University, I was involved in different activities like meetings and workshops, which made my academic experience even more enriching.

On the personal side, when visiting the UK, I had the opportunity of learning more about the history and culture of the country and meet an incredible group of people, who unconditionally helped me and made me feel as I was at home all the time. I can say without hesitation that this was one of most fulfilling experiences I have had so far and I am looking forward to be part of a similar project soon.

Finally, I would like to strongly encourage all the students and professionals in general that might have the opportunity to participate in these kind of projects, as the benefits of being part of all the related activities are invaluable and will improve the professional and personal experience of all the participants.
