Contemporary Ceramics

James Robson

James has evolved a very unconventional and experimental slip casting technique.

Custom building moulds to produce one off pieces contradicts the general application of slip casting in ceramic. I create an enclosed space, which is then filled with ceramic slip. Whilst I can roughly visualise the end product, I am allowing the process to dictate the form. It’s as much about the eccentricities that occur when casting this way. As a result I have many avenues of exploration and technical challenges. I utilise various stoneware/earthenware glaze recipes and different kiln firings and programming techniques.
