Equipment - Fabricsonic Alpha 2 machine (former R200)

The Sonic Layer R200 combines ultrasonic metal welding and CNC milling – hence the process combines additive and subtractive techniques. The R200 is a modified version of the commercially available machine with an open platform and without a CNC milling to manually perform basic research.

Bonding is achieved by applying ultrasonic oscillations and pressure via a cylindrical sonotrode to subsequent layers of metal foil which are placed on an anvil. The anvil can be heated up to 149°C.
