The Position of the Dutch 'Noordvleugel' Region within International Foreign Direct Investment Networks
(Ronald Wall)

In assignment of the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, research has been carried out by Ronald Wall, IHS/Erasmus University Rotterdam, to define the relative position of the Dutch North-Wing within international FDI networks. The study considers inward and outward investments (2000-2009) within the European NUTS 2 regions. The North-Wing concerns the top half of the Randstad. This has resulted in a Report and a supplementary animation of the total FDI network.

The network has been generated using GIS software, and made three dimensional using 3D StudioMax. The node and linkage thicknesses represent the total merger and acquisitions (M&A) deals (Euros) taking place within this period. The higher and bigger the node the more important it is.

Thanks to Marino Gouwens and Eline Wieland for 3D Animation and Martijn Burger and Stijn Vossen for their contribution to the data analysis.
