STI support business opportunity to develop personalisation of sport aids

The Sports Technology Institute is supporting a competition to offer five businesses a chance to win £25,000 for the development of innovative commercial prototypes.

The Digital Innovation Contest - Sport is being run by IC tomorrow, who partners the STI at Loughborough University. The department is supporting the ‘personalising sport performance' challenge area.

The competition asks businesses to develop a service prototype or application that looks at the personalisation of performance features to match how each individual plays sport, maximises performance, reduces injury risk, and makes equipment choices.

Successful solutions may explore one or more of the following:

  • Tracking and analysis of kinetics and/or kinematics, allowing motions, pressures, forces or other relevant data to be captured
  • using smart-device pedometers, accelerometers, gyroscopes, GPS or other sensors to drive athlete performance

Alongside funding, the winner will also receive exposure to a range of leading sector partners, the opportunity to test their proposed application or service with
leading sector partners, promotion for their prototype solution via the IC tomorrow programme and they will also be able to retain their intellectual property.

The deadline for entries is the 14th August 2013.
