With a play-off place on the line for the visitors, Forest produced a composed performance throughout to secure a crucial win in Loughborough, led by Rolene Streutker's impressive 42-goal haul and a Player of the Match display from goalkeeper Jayda Pechova.
The visitors opened the scoring through Streutker after an early flying intercept from Appleby-Prince had briefly lifted the home crowd. Forest quickly settled into rhythm and capitalised on Lightning errors to edge ahead during the opening exchanges, while Streutker continued to apply pressure in the shooting circle. Despite moments of attacking fluidity from the hosts, Forest maintained control to take a 19-14 lead into the first break.
Lightning responded positively at the start of the second quarter, with Wallace-Joseph scoring within 10 seconds of the centre pass to immediately reduce the deficit. The home side began to build momentum through the shooting partnership of Wallace-Joseph and Clark, with both players sinking confident super shots to energise the crowd and keep Lightning within touching distance.
Van de Merwe also produced a crucial interception in defence as Lightning attempted to shift the momentum, but Forest continued to respond well under pressure. The visitors carried a narrow 39-35 advantage into half-time after an entertaining opening half in Loughborough.
Forest reasserted themselves after half time and extended their lead during the third quarter. Lightning appeared slightly off their usual rhythm, and despite their flashes of quality, Forest entered the final quarter with a commanding 58-47 lead.
Lightning continued to battle throughout the closing stages, but Forest remained composed to see out an impressive 76-65 victory on the road - a result which secured their place in the NSL play-offs.
While the result marked only Lightning's second loss of the campaign, the evening still provided a memorable celebration of Pride within the sport, with supporters creating a vibrant atmosphere inside the Sir David Wallace Arena throughout the contest.
