Durant sustained a calf strain during the recent international window and is currently undertaking a structured return-to-play programme, and is progressing well.
van Nierop, who has captained the NXT Gen side and has represented the Vitality Roses at under-19 Academy level, will gain valuable first-team experience whilst Durant faces a forced spell on the sidelines.
Vic Burgess, Head Coach of Loughborough Lightning, said:
“Millie has come through the Lightning pathway from the age of 12, and this opportunity is a testament to her dedication, resilience and the hard work she has consistently shown over the years. Watching her progress through our pathway system and now earn her place in the senior environment makes us incredibly proud.
While we continue to fully support Beth through her rehab journey, we’re excited to see Millie take this next step. She understands our culture, standards and style of play, and we have every confidence she will embrace the challenge and make the most of this opportunity.”
Lightning enjoyed a dream start to the 2026 campaign by claiming victory in The Soft & Gentle Netball Super Cup by beating London Pulse, 18-17.
Vic Burgess’ side begin their quest for a fourth Netball Super League title by hosting LexisNexis Dragons on Saturday 28 February.
