Loughborough Lightning continued the momentum of their recent Soft & Gentle Super Cup success by making a winning start to their Netball Super League campaign, defeating LexisNexis Dragons 75–60 at Sir David Wallace Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Lightning hit the ground running and set the tone early, with Samantha Wallace-Joseph and Ella Clark both firing with perfect accuracy from the Super Shot range in the opening quarter, helping Lightning establish a strong foundation on attack.

Across the court, defensive standout Alice Harvey was a constant presence, finishing the match with four rebounds, six deflections and an impressive eight gains, underpinning Lightning’s ability to turn defence into attack throughout the contest.

The Dragons showed dogged determination on the other end of the court. Jacqui Newton worked tirelessly in defence, and the returning Leah Middleton formed a combative partnership that frequently challenged Lightning’s ball progression. However, despite their efforts and flashes of pressure, they weren’t able to stem Lightning’s attacking flow as the hosts pulled clear.

Lightning’s performance highlights the depth and quality across the squad as they carry their Super Cup form into the league season, setting an early marker for the challenges ahead.
