Lange joined Lightning’s NXT Gen programme in 2023 and has gone on to make a significant impact within the pathway, playing a key role in the side that lifted the NXT Gen title in 2025. A consistent performer across her time in purple, her progression is a testament to the strength of Lightning’s development system, which continues to provide athletes with opportunities to step into the elite game.
A strong, physical defender, Lange has developed into a commanding presence in the circle and now earns her opportunity at the top level.
Speaking on her move, Lange said she was excited by the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
“I’ve been playing for Loughborough Lightning’s NXT Gen team for the past couple of seasons.
“When the opportunity came up, it was something I couldn’t pass up.”
She joins a Leeds Rhinos side competing in the Netball Super League and will link up with an experienced defensive unit as she looks to make an immediate impact.
Lange added:
“I’m incredibly excited to make my Super League debut. It’s something I’ve dreamed of since I was a kid.
“I can’t wait to get out there and feel the support from the fans.”
Off court, Lange has also demonstrated leadership qualities through her wider netball experience, further underlining her all-round development during her time within the Lightning environment.
Everyone at Loughborough Lightning congratulates Marlene on this well-deserved opportunity and looks forward to following her journey in the Netball Super League.
