Lightning made some changes to their starting line-up, including a first league start for Sammy Wallace-Joseph. A competitive first quarter saw both sides trade blows, but Berri Neil's accuracy from the super shot range helped Lightning edge ahead 20–15.
The visitors began to turn the screw in the second, with Beth Cobden and Jodie Gibson disrupting the Dragons' attack and forcing multiple turnovers. A tactical timeout from the hosts did little to slow Lightning's growing momentum.
Ella Clark entered the game in the third quarter, quickly establishing a strong connection with Wallace-Joseph in attack. Shadine van der Merwe and Natalie Panagarry provided plenty of energy across the court as Lightning looked to maintain control.
Dragons rallied in the final quarter, narrowing the gap, but a vital flying intercept from Shadine Van Der Merwe helped relieve the pressure. Lightning showed composure to retain possession and close out the contest with the game in the balance.
Speaking after the game, Head Coach Vic Burgess said:
"I'm pleased with the win; we started a lot better. We keep wanting to push on, develop, and improve as we progress through the rounds.
We've had some brilliant moments of play, but I don't think we're quite there yet, and we'll keep pushing to improve our consistency."
Next up, Lightning face London Mavericks away before returning home to Sir David Wallace as they take on Birmingham Panthers on Friday 25th April.
