Loughborough Lightning maintained their recent good form with a commanding 65-53 victory over Manchester Thunder, in a rematch of last year’s Netball Super League Grand Final

Despite a strong start from Thunder, who took an early lead, Lightning weathered the early storm and gradually found their rhythm. A late flying interception from Shadine van der Merwe proved pivotal, sparking a run of crucial supershots from Berri Neil and Sammy Wallace-Joseph that saw Lightning edge in front.

The defending champions showcased their pedigree in a dominant second quarter, with relentless defensive pressure across the court. Intercepts from Neil and van der Merwe and a typically industrious performance from Beth Cobden helped extend Lightning’s advantage to a comfortable margin by half-time.

That momentum continued into the third quarter, when van der Merwe led the charge with further key interceptions. Although both sides were guilty of turnovers, Lightning remained composed and held a clear lead heading into the final period.

Thunder rallied in the final quarter, reducing the deficit through determined attacking play. But Lightning's Ella Clark delivered a masterclass in the supershot zone, while the defensive circle stood firm under pressure to close out a decisive win 65 – 53.

Shadine van der Merwe was named the Fans’ Long Tall Sally Player of the Match and the Experience Kissimmee Player of the Match – the second time she has claimed the honours against her former side this season.
