PhD Topic/Title: Buildings BRICS: Indian Cities in the World City Network
Why and how some cities are better connected than others? This is the starting point of this research. We are made aware that the current phase of globalisation has made cities more connected than before. This is particularly important for the fast emerging BRIC countries which have opened up their borders in globalization. Relaxing their trade and investment rules have allowed their cities to become more connected with other global cities - through greater flow of goods, capital, services, knowledge, and information – and become more integrated into the world city network. But why are some Indian cities more connected and how do we explain this? This research argues that it is necessary to take a historical perspective, developing a spatial and temporal firm-level analysis.
