Dr Dave Ashby

Following his Human Geography BA at the University of Leicester, Dave (he/him) completed a two-year MA in Culture Communication and Globalisation, specialising in Migration, at Aalborg University. In the final six months, Dave was also a visiting scholar at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He returned to Leicester in 2015 as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, completing his HEA Associate Fellowship in 2018, and his Ph.D. in 2020.

Dave is a social, cultural and political geographer. He has specialisms in critical geopolitics and migration alongside indigenous, digital and sexual geographies. Dave’s Ph.D. explored emerging generational fault-lines in the UK, using the comedy of both broadcast panel shows and memes to analyse relationships to and understandings of geopolitical crises. A member of the Critical and Creative Research Group at the University of Leicester, Dave is currently engaged in a research project exploring queer citizenship in the pandemic.
