PhD Topic/Title: Sustainable Energy & Poverty Reduction: The role of clean energy technologies in promoting income-generating activities in low-income settlements.
This PhD research project will explore the role of clean energy technologies in reducing poverty in urban Ghana, specifically focussing on how improving access to sustainable energy can promote income-generating activities in low-income urban areas. The proposed research comprises interviewing leading actors in the Ghanaian energy sector including NGOs, charities, international organisations and private companies, as well as representatives of relevant government departments and specialist academics. He also intends to conduct discourse analyses of Ghanaian and international energy policies and poverty reduction schemes. Furthermore, he shall conduct surveys and potentially focus groups with citizens of low-income urban areas in Accra and Kumasi.
