Renewables: Bioenergy - Distance Learning

28 September 2020 - 29 January 2021

This 15 week online course will introduce students to a broad range of biomass energy technologies and the fundamental concepts of anaerobic digestion. Course content includes sources of biomass, wood energy resources, waste, anaerobic digestion and liquid fuels.

On completion of the module, students should be able to

  • Estimate the biomass resource in specific situations and have an understanding of the conversion processes and equipment needed for optimum conversion of the biomass.

  • Appreciate that in order to extract energy from different biological resources, appropriate technologies are available according to feedstock characteristics and fuel e.g. gas, liquid, char. This range of different biomass to energy technologies are covered in the module.

  • Gain a good understanding of the technical aspects of waste bioenergy, including outline designs, life and cost benefit analysis, techniques for recovering energy from wastewater, food waste and agricultural wastes.

  • Obtain experience in interpreting and analysing data to prepare engineering designs, operation and control.

Delivered completely online this course will offer you the flexibility of working at your own pace at the most convenient time of the day.

You can choose to take *formal assessment at Loughborough and if successful can accumulate credits towards your personal CPD portfolio.  By obtaining credits you may also be eligible to progress towards a postgraduate award.
