- Pharmaceutical Science and Medicinal Chemistry MSc
- Study area
I chose Loughborough because it provided a good balance between my Academic and Sporting ambitions. The facilities here are great and it’s nice to have everything so close.
Why did you choose Loughborough University?
It provided a good balance between my Academic and Sporting ambitions.
What do you enjoy the most about your programme?
The application of my chemistry background to practical uses, and researching into new areas. I’ve enjoyed learning more biology again.
Describe what it is like to be a postgraduate, and how this differs from undergraduate studies?
Postgraduate study is a lot more research based and the high workload is often left for you to manage. Time management plays much more of a key role.
Describe a day in the life of a postgraduate student?
Typically the modules run in intense lecture blocks, so a typical day of lectures would be 9-5 with lunch. Outside of lecture periods, research work and making sure you’re up to date on all the deadlines play an important part of the course.
How do you like to spend your time away from your studies?
I’m a GB 800m athlete so a lot of my spare time is spent training. The facilities at Loughborough are great for that and it’s nice to have everything so close.
Why did you decide to study?
I wanted to specialise from my undergraduate and applying chemistry in a more drugs based scenario really interested me.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I’d like to feel as though the work I do makes a real difference to people’s lives. Researching into disease treatments really interests me. I see it as important to be in a role where I can see career progression, so this will also be one of my focal points when looking for jobs.
If you could give one piece of advice to a future student, what would it be?
Work hard. How hard you work and the grade you come out with nearly always correlate, it’s not a secret!
