Step-by-step guide

Retrieving your IT credentials

Our student credentials system allows you to retrieve your University username and email address and set your password by using your UCAS Personal Id or Loughborough application number and date of birth to log in. You can also update your permanent email address as part of the process.

The system is usually made available to Undergraduate students at lunchtime of A-level results day.  Pre-sessional, postgraduate and other types of students are typically given access around 6 weeks before their start date.

Step 1: Log in

You will be emailed your UCAS or Loughborough application number when invited to register.

Date of birth is in the format DD-MON-YYYY, e.g. 10-SEP-2001

You will  have up to 5 attempts to log in

If you are unsuccessful after 5 attempts, your account for this system will be locked and you will need to contact the Service Desk to retrieve your credentials over the phone.

You can access the system 3 times. This is independent of the 5 log-in attempts. After successfully logging in 3 times, your access will be locked, and you will need to contact the Service Desk to retrieve your credentials over the phone.

Step 2: Enter or verify email address

If we have a permanent email address for you, the system gives you a chance to update it.

If we do not have an email address, the system asks you to enter it.

In both cases (where you update your email address or enter a new one) the next page will ask you to confirm the address you have just entered.

Step 3: Username

You will be given your University username.

Please make a note of it.

Step 4: Email address

You will then be given your University email address.

Please make a note of this too.

Step 5: Password

At this stage, you will be given the opportunity to create a password that conforms to the University’s password policy.

Once you have created your password you will not be able to view or amend it from the student credential system.

We strongly recommend you enrol in the Password Reset System. This will make it easy for you to change your password, especially if you forget it.

Passwords can be changed by logging on to a University Computer and then pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and clicking on Change Password.

Additionally, please ensure your password does not contain any personal details - this includes your name or IT username in any format e.g., @Jonathan123 or @ITStudent123.

Step 6: Setup with Duo Mobile app

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a required when accessing University online services and systems remotely.

In addition to your password, multi-factor authentication provides a second layer of security by sending an approval request to an enrolled device.

Using your IT Credentials, you can set up MFA on your mobile device with the Duo Mobile App.

Install is quick and simple. Both step-by-step instructions and video tutorials can be found on this website.

Once you have completed the process, you will receive and confirmation email and can log out of the system. You will then be directed to the online registration system where you can use your newly retrieved credentials to log on and complete your registration, allowing us to have your ID card ready for when you arrive.
