Terms and Conditions

Find out if you're eligible and the kinds of businesses we will support by reading through our Terms and Conditions.

To be eligible for the Loughborough Enterprise Network Start-up Fund, you must be one of the following:

  • Loughborough University Undergraduate Student
  • Loughborough University Masters Student
  • Loughborough University PhD / Doctoral Student (where the business idea is not connected to Loughborough University or third-party research)
  • Loughborough University Graduate (within two years of graduation)

Due to visa restrictions, Tier 4 students are not eligible to apply. Exchange students are not eligible to apply for this fund either.

Key things to note

Your business / business idea must be at either pre-trading or early stages of development.

A detailed financial breakdown will be required at the full application stage (once invited to apply).

It is your responsibility to ensure that the information provided in your presentation and pitch to the panel is not made public, in case you want to protect your idea in the future.

The Start-Up Fund must only be used for business purposes.

We cannot support all businesses

Loughborough Enterprise Network will not support businesses or ideas that are related to any of the following:

  • Alcohol;
  • Drugs (this includes any business or idea connected to tobacco or vaping);
  • Pornography;
  • Political or Religious agendas;
  • Gambling;
  • Illegal or Unregulated activity (such as cryptocurrencies)

It won't fund everything

The Start-Up Fund cannot be used to fund stock, travel or recurring expenses. Instead, it should be used for one-off costs and purchases that are crucial to your business's development. For example, a mobile food van or a distinct piece of software.

How many times can I apply?

While one bid at the maximum of £5000 will be allowed per student, multiple bids will be permitted up to the cumulative value of £5000 per business or idea. To apply more than once, you will require prior written permission from the relevant Student or Graduate Enterprise Adviser.

The Start-Up Fund is open-ended, meaning that you can apply at anytime within the year once invited to by one of our Student or Graduate Enterprise Advisers. However, it not limitless. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you apply as soon as you are ready and your Adviser will let you know when they think you have reached this stage.

The judging panel will assess your application at any point throughout the term in which you apply. They will then invite successful applicants to Stage Two of the process: The Panel Pitch. This will take place once towards the end of each term and the first one is due to take place at the end of November / beginning of December.
