Engineering graduate named Tomorrow’s Leader

May 11, 2011

Civil Engineering graduate Dr Phebe Mann has been named Tomorrow’s Leader at the UKRC Women of Outstanding Achievement Awards.

Now a leading engineer at the University of East London, Dr Mann is the first and only woman in the UK to hold five professional engineering qualifications concurrently.

She is also the first female chair of the Leicester Centre of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), and outside of her day job has invested a tremendous amount of time and energy into helping students overcome great difficulties to become successful in science, engineering and technology (SET).

The Awards, now in their sixth year, recognise the diverse contributions of women as leaders, innovators and role models.

“I am humbled and honoured to have been presented with this award,” said Dr Mann. “The perception of engineering ‘is not for girls’ has gradually been changed over the years, as we can see more and more women engineers in responsible positions in industry.
