Society sport

If you enjoy football and are a society member, you'll want to take part in our 6-a-side football league running every Thursday.

When: Every Thursday (7.30pm – 10.30pm)

Where: PEC Rubber Crumb

All players please note, although society football is recreational, it can sometimes get physical. Therefore, in accordance with ours Terms and Conditions, all people play at their own risk. It is also strongly recommended that all players wear shin pads, suitable protective clothing and footwear that complies with footwear regulations for the artificial surface.

Rules

General

  • Games will be approximately 30 minutes in length, split into two halves
    • 2 minutes maximum half time
    • If a game starts late, time should be taken off half lengths
  • Please aim to be at the pitch for at least 10 minutes before the KO time
  • Teams should aim to wear similar coloured kits
  • Games are 6-a-side
    • Teams can only make substitutes when the ball is out of play
    • Substitutions are unlimited and a Player may return to the pitch once substituted
    • Teams can have different players each week
      • If a team is consistently completely different each week a note will be taken and discussed with all league coordinators
      • All players must be members of the respective society
  • All free-kicks are direct, and can be scored from
    • Players must be 3 yards away from a free-kick
    • All free kicks must be taken at least 3 yards back from the penalty area so a defensive wall can be used
  • There is no offside rule
  • Kick-off is performed after every time a goal is scored

Disciplinary

  • Abuse of any kind will not be tolerated by referees, any abuse will result in a straight red card
  • Sliding tackles are banned from all matches and will result in a foul
  • There is no sin-bin, red cards are effective for the whole game
  • Red cards will result in the player being reported to the student sport office and appropriate disciplinary action being taken
  • All yellow and red cards are down to the referee’s discretion. Referees decision is final on all matters

Goalkeepers & the area

  • The goalkeeper is not allowed outside his/her box
    • Momentum may carry a goalkeeper out of the box, if this occurs, the referee uses his/her discretion
  • The goalkeeper can kick, roll or throw the ball out from both open play and goal kicks
  • Goalkeeper may handle any ball in the area including pass backs from defenders
  • When an outfield player receives the ball from the goalkeeper, it must touch another player before the goalkeeper receives the ball again
  • Outfield players are not allowed in the box for any reason (referee’s discretion)

Attendance

  • If a team is unable to make a fixture due to Society Events then they must try to reorganise the time slot where possible
  • If the game cannot be rescheduled and the team therefore must withdraw from the game, a walkover score of 5-0 will be awarded against the team that doesn’t turn up
  • Teams must give notice of their withdrawal from the match. Notice must reach Chris Briggs and the representative of the other team
    • A team can inform the Society Sport Coordinator if they are unable to attend the match but it must be more than 5 hours in advance
      • After 3 informed walkovers the team will be removed from the league

Penalties

  • Goalkeepers must remain on their line for a penalty
  • If there is no penalty spot marked on the pitch, the penalty will be taken 1 yard back from the edge of the penalty area
  • Players must not take more than 1 step back when taking a penalty
  • Players must ensure it is clear to the referee and the goalkeeper who is taking the penalty

Other

  • When the ball leaves the field of play through either side of the pitch, a throw-in must restart play
  • 3 points will be given for a win, 1 point for a draw and zero points for a loss
  • If a team does not have a league fixture one week (through a team informing the league coordinators of their inability to play) then the coordinators will try to arrange a friendly fixture
  • If a team cannot attend their game, they will automatically lose that fixture 5-0
  • All players must wear appropriate clothing
