Loughborough had a BYE in the 1st round of the cup, followed by a dominant 41-13 win against Harper Adams University Men’s 2nd at home in round 16, with Loughborough scoring 7 tries and 3 successful conversions in their favour.
At the quarter finals of the cup, Loughborough beat University of Warwick Mens 2nd 19-37 away. The strong performance continued in the semi finals of the cup when Loughborough beat University of Birmingham Mens 2nd 17-42 away again and leading them to the final.
This will be the 1st year Loughborough 4th team is in the final, after losing in the last 32 round last year.
Included in the matchday squad are Dan Riou and Josh Searby who are two players that have made the progression from the IMS programme into the AU Club this year. They were both called up into the squad just before Christmas after being highlighted through the IMS programme and since then they were very a vital part of the BUCS 4 team. Through their attitudes on and off the pitch, both exemplified what it means to be a member of LSRFC. Also, players to watch out for are Dom Lilley (Captain, 10), Ioan Tolosano (Vice-captain, 7), and Will Lockhart (15). They all highlight the value the IMS programme provides to the club and the player pathway available to progress.
