Loughborough Women's Tennis soared to victory on Wednesday morning, claiming Championship Gold in the annual BUCS Big Wednesday finals day.

The BUCS Women’s Trophy tournament started early on Wednesday morning at Nottingham Tennis Centre, where Loughborough pitched its 2nd team to face-off against Cambridge University.

The doubles event commenced the proceedings, with Gabby Chidwick & Zoe Judkowski as the first pair taking the second win of the day. The girls played their way through an easy first set before what was called “a lapse of concentration” that saw Cambridge come back to win six games in the second set. Through to the tie-break style third set, and Loughborough played it point-by-point to haul their way back into the lead and secure victory.

Zainab Williams & Christina Pozerskis won the first match, which secured the doubles event for the Loughborough girls, who now only had to win half of their singles matches to take the silverware home.

Judkowksi was swiftly back on court with another win, making use of her opportunities and winning 80% of the game points that she earnt. Ariana Saki saw off another opponent in an unbelievably water-tight performance, only conceding one game to Cambridge in the first set. In the second she saw it right through to the end with straight games, sweeping up every chance that presented itself. Similarly, Zainab Williams put away her opponent, so by the time Gabby Chidwick was on court, the trophy was already won. The 2nd Year Sport Science student didn’t let her guard down, and played through a tough second set (7-5) to win the match.

In the early evening, the girls lined up for a photo with their trophy and medals, smiles beaming after a swift and unbeaten victory, and then a long wait for the men’s tournament to come to an end.
