Lightning gear up for first home game of 2019 in the Tyrrells Premier 15s

After an impressive start to 2019, Lightning will look to keep their winning momentum as they welcome Firwood Waterloo Ladies to Loughborough University this Saturday.

The game at 12pm kick starts a triple header with Lightning 2’s taking to the pitch at 2pm, who also play Firwood Waterloo Ladies, in the Development League, before Loughborough Students RFC complete the day  taking on Bishop’s Stortford RFC at 3pm.

Boosted by their impressive performance last week against DMP Sharks, Lightning will aim to replicate the defensive pressure and attacking accuracy in this week’s game against Waterloo. Building on last week’s performance, being clinical in both attack and defence for the full 80 minutes, will be crucial in the final few weeks of the Tyrrells Premier 15s.

Lightning 2’s will be looking to reproduce their strong 62-point win over Firwood Waterloo this Saturday, as the teams meet for the second and final time this season.

With fierce competition for places in the starting 15, Lightning will make four changes to their starting line-up. Ella Wyrwas, Ellen Ramsbottom, Leah Bartlett and Sarah Bonar all step up into the starting 15 after a fantastic performance off the bench last week and will look to show the fans why they deserve their spot.

Of the game this week, Head Coach Rhys Edwards commented:

"We are very happy with our performance last weekend against DMP Sharks, it shows what we are capable of when we apply ourselves and stick to a game plan. I think the balance of our play last week was exceptional in terms of how we scored from such a variety of attacking plays. The challenge this week is to maximise our performance to try and gain as many points as possible and Waterloo at home is another opportunity to do that. It was a tough game last year against a very physical side and again one of our toughest games we played in the first half of the season up in Waterloo. The challenge for us is for our forwards to be dominant like last week, giving us the go forward and the opportunity to play out wide. However, we will need to be more street wise this week with Waterloo targeting our set piece and contact area."

Commenting on player selection, Head Coach Rhys Edwards said:

"Having Daleaka back on the pitch last week was great as she is such a strong ball carrier. With all the England girls prepping for Six Nations they will be looking to keep building on their performances so for us its just a case of focusing on the game ahead to secure the win."

Lightning will kick-off the triple header at 12.00pm. If you can’t make the game make sure you tune into the Lightning Twitter account for live updates.
