The largest sporting event to be staged in Australia this decade, GC2018 will feature the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising 18 sports and seven para-sports. Beach Volleyball, Para Triathlon and Women’s Rugby Sevens will make their Commonwealth Games debuts and for the first time at a Commonwealth Games, an equal number of men’s and women’s medal events will be contested.
Loughborough at the Commonwealth Games
Loughborough athletes have enjoyed outstanding Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010 and Glasgow four years ago, winning 44 and 35 medals respectively, across seven different sports. To put this into perspective, if the University was a country, it would have finished 11th in the overall table, right behind Jamaica and Kenya.
In 2018 more than 85 Loughborough students, alumni and campus based athletes will compete in no fewer than seven different sports for nine different countries. For further information head to our athlete page.
