We are Open! Things will be a little different, but we believe we can offer the perfect environment for you to #TrainSafe.
**PLEASE NOTE** It is compulsory to wear a face mask in the communal areas of our facilities.
Your safety, and that of our staff is a top priority. In line with government guidance, we have made a number of changes to our gyms and other facilities to ensure they are a safe place for you to #TrainSafe.
#TrainSafe is our comprehensive approach to making our gyms a safe place to workout. When you come back, you'll notice the gyms will look a little different, but you'll still get everything you need for a great workout.
In the short term, current Powerbase members have been automatically re-allocated to our newly refurbished Holywell Fitness Centre. There will be a phased re-opening of Powerbase Gym and the Pool to our members with our aim to have all facilities fully operational at the beginning of Autumn. If you haven't visited Holywell in a while take a look at our range of new equipment and functional space HERE.
We will provide regular updates before we open each facility, but here are some of the changes you can expect in the first instance at Holywell:
Keeping a safe distance
We’ve created the space you need to work out while keeping a safe distance. The gym has also been rearranged and clearly marked out for you to use safely, so it is easy for everyone to follow. We'll also control the numbers in the gym at any given time so it never gets too busy.
Extensive and frequent cleaning
Our gyms will be deep cleaned every night with high-grade anti-viral disinfectant. The team will also clean every piece of kit and surface throughout the day, from dumbbells to treadmills and everything in between, so you can train with confidence.
We've installed new self-cleaning stations so you can clean your kit before and after use, for added peace of mind. Cleaning stations are located in all key areas of the gym to make it as easy as possible.
Hand sanitising stations
You'll find more hand sanitising stations around the gym so it's easy to regularly clean your hands during your visit. We ask that you also sanitise your hands before entering the gym to keep yourself and others safe.
Staff training and expertise
All staff will be fully trained on our new cleaning and safety measures to ensure these are delivered to the highest standard.
Managing gym capacity
Please book your arrival time in advance through our app (slots available every 20 mins throughout the day) and stay no longer than 1 hr. This will ensure all members have a safe environment to train in as well as the opportunity to train every day.
What facilities will be available?
We can’t wait to reopen our gyms and to once again provide you with a huge range of workout options. You'll be able to make the most of a range of our facilities, with enhanced measures in place to ensure we can ensure you #Trainsafe:
Indoor gym facilities
We're adapting our bright, spacious gyms which will allow us to offer a safe experience. Initially only Holywell Fitness Centre gym will be available, with the aim to have Powerbase gym fully operational by the beginning of Autumn.
We're bringing back our best-loved classes and, even though class sizes are reduced, through alternative offers we will endeavour to maintain the same number of class spaces throughout the day. Initially Classes will only be available out of Holywell Fitness Centre, with the aim to have Sir David Wallace and Pool Classes returning soon.
Our Swimming Pool is now open to members. In the early stages of re-opening we are only offering lane swimming and are restricting the numbers to a maximum of 24 per session, which like the gym will require booking beforehand. For full details on the Pool and how to access, please click HERE.
Sinks and toilets will be available to use, with signs to indicate those which are open. However they will not be available for changing or storage - please arrive ready to train. Alternative options for storage will be provided on the ground floor.
Other facilities across campus
As of 19 August, the only indoor facilities reopening to members of the public is Holywell Fitness Centre gym, the Pool, New Victory Hall for badminton, and the tennis centre. All remaining facilities will undergo a phased reopening in line with Government guidelines and the requirements of our partners, including UK Sport, English Institute of Sport and National Governing Bodies for sport. We will provide updates as the situation for each facility changes but the plan is for all facilities to be fully operational by the beginning of Autumn. The same policy applies to our outdoor facilities, with the facilities currently open to the public being Ball Park, Games Park and outdoor cricket nets.
Health & Hygiene in the gym: FAQs
Although Holywell Fitness Centre is the only facility to re-open to members on 25 July, we will provide regular updates as we expand the number of facilities available for you to use, including Powerbase Gym and the Pool. We will also inform you on any changes to health and safety protocols, however, we hope the following FAQs will help you with any questions you may have.
We would like to thank each and every one of our members for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming you back onto our campus soon.
WHAT ARE THE GYM OPENING HOURS?
In the first instance, access to Holywell Fitness Centre will be:
Mon - Fri: 6.30am-8pm
ARE YOU RESTRICTING NUMBERS IN THE GYM?
Yes. We will limit the number of people in the gym at the same time, so members can keep a safe distance from each other. You can check the app to see how many places are available and how many people are currently there. It's best to plan your visit at a quieter time or book before you arrive to avoid having to wait outside until there's an available slot.
WILL I NEED TO BOOK TO GET INTO THE GYM?
Yes. You will need to book your gym session via the Loughborough Sport app. Bookings can only be made on the day.
CAN I ENTER THE BUILDING WITHOUT BOOKING?
Although access won't be blocked into the building, we ask that you only enter if you've booked a slot to enter the gym and only enter when it's the correct time. This is to avoid gatherings at the reception area as without a valid booking you won't be able to access through the turnstiles to the gym and studio area, even if you have a valid membership with us.
HOW LONG CAN I STAY IN THE GYM?
We ask that members stay a maximum of 1 hour in order to help manage the number of members in the gym to keep you safe but also provide the opportunity for all members to train every day.
HOW DO I GET INTO THE GYM?
The Gym will be accessible as normal via the turnstiles. You will only be granted access to the gym if you have booked your slot on the app.
We expect queues to be very unlikely but have put safety measures in place if you do need to wait a little before getting in.
WILL I HAVE TO QUEUE?
We expect queues to be very unlikely but have put safety measures in place if you do need to wait a little before getting in. You can reduce the chance of queuing by planning your visit at a quieter time or booking before you arrive.
ARE THE CHANGING FACILITIES AND LOCKERS AVAILABLE?
Changing facilities will not be available, however storage will be provided on the ground floor. With this in mind please arrive ready to train, limit the amount you bring with you to the gym and do not bring valuables.
ARE CLASSES STILL RUNNING?
Yes, classes will be running. We will be announcing soon the new offer, which will include new alternatives to help us maintain the same number of places even though class sizes will be reduced.
WILL I STILL BE ABLE TO USE THE CLASSES AND CONTENT ON THE APP?
All our online content will still be available on the Mywellness app for all our members to access.
HOW WILL YOU KEEP THE GYM CLEAN?
Holywell fitness centre will be deep cleaned overnight and regularly through the day, using high-grade disinfectants that will kill viruses.
CAN PHYSICAL ACTIVITY HELP AGAINST COVID-19?
Being physically fit is highly protective against a range of illnesses. It also boosts the immune system. COVID-19 particularly affects those with underlying health conditions, diabetes etc. Given that the virus is now considered to be ‘endemic’ within the community, it is more important than ever to maintain one’s fitness.
CAN YOU CATCH COVID-19 FROM SWEAT?
No, COVID-19 is not transmitted through sweat.
Don't forget, wiping sweat from your face could lead to the virus being passed from your hands to your face. So it is very important to regularly use hand sanitisers (60% alcohol +) and avoid touching your face as much as possible.
ARE GYMS HIGHER RISK THAN OTHER ENCLOSED SPACES?
No, there is the same chance of getting COVID-19 in all areas indoors, the key is keeping social distancing in place and following cleanliness and aerosolisation guidelines.
SHOULD I WEAR A MASK TO THE GYM?
Mask protects people from droplet spread from an infected person to another person. It does not protect the wearer and safe distancing is probably of greater importance.
This is because the majority of droplets emitted will fall to the ground within 2 metres. Masks will also compromise physical exertion and this has to be taken into consideration when training.
At Holywell Fitness Centre you are not required to wear a mask, for this reason, however, you can do so if you would feel more comfortable.
SHOULD I WEAR GLOVES TO THE GYM?
No. Gloves should be reserved for those undertaking certain tasks and are worn in hospital environments, those caring for the sick, by cleaning staff etc. Gloves can harbour a high viral load and contaminate surfaces. The individual may also transfer from glove to face in a higher dose and not touching the face and washing hands thoroughly is far more important.
