Coronavirus (COVID-19) update
Loughborough Sport information for our students, staff, campus partners and community.
We are working with the Government Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, UK Sport, our National Governing Body partners and teams across Loughborough University on plans to bring back sporting activities onto our campus in a safe and controlled environment for all involved.
SDC staffing and work practices
A minimum number of staff have now been brought back onto campus to support the resumption of high-performance sport coaching and training activities. There will be constant reviews as the situation develops. Staff currently in furlough who are being brought back onto campus will be contacted by their line managers. There are no other currently planned changes to any SDC working arrangements. We are implementing new protocols for staff on campus; to ensure social distancing and facilities are operated safely. These will be communicated to all effected staff before any return to campus.
At this time, our sports facilities remain closed to the public. However following the Government's latest announcement we will be able to reopen the gym at Holywell Fitness Centre from Saturday 25 July. We hope to continue to reopen facilities to members, including Powerbase Gym and the Pool, in due course, however they will remain closed on 25 July. In the short term, current Powerbase members will be automatically re-allocated to our newly refurbished Holywell Fitness Centre.
We will provide further updates once each facility is reopened, however the intention is for all facilities to be fully operational at the beginning of Autumn.
As each facility reopens, all activities within that facility will need to be booked in advance, including public swim and personal gym sessions. All available sessions will be bookable on our Lboro Sport App and, if applicable, payment will be required at the time of booking.
Currently the only facilities open to the public on campus and do not require to book are:
- Ball Park
- Games Park
From the 25 July the following facilities are open to the public and will need to be booked in advance before entering:
- Holywell Fitness Centre gym
Due to the continuing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, the University sporting calendar for 20-21 is going to look different. The latest update from BUCS on the inter university competitions they are responsible for can be found here. Loughborough Sport are continuing to work together and plan to ensure that sport remains at the heart of the University experience of so many of our students and that there is a strong, varied and quality offer available for all students at all levels of the sporting pathway throughout the whole of the 20-21 academic year.

In these unprecedented and difficult times we ask everyone to stand together. We would like to thank each and every one of our members for your support and we look forward to welcoming you back onto our campus soon.
We recognise the valued support from our sport partners and the extraordinary commitment from colleagues who have enabled us to continue to operate up to this point.
Please bear with us while we begin to process the volume of enquires that this unprecedented event has created. Further information is outlined below:
From 25 July all gym memberships which have been frozen, will become active. Powerbase members will be automatically re-allocated to Holywell Fitness Centre. We expect Powerbase gym to be fully operational at the beginning of Autumn. And for anyone who would like to join, we will be welcoming all new members with open arms...from at least 2m away!
For returning members, we once again hope our gym and health offer can form an incredibly important part of your experience at Loughborough, therefore we want to give you back more than the time you have lost training with us. We will be emailing all of our members with the latest information to keep you informed when these classes will be running again.
Public swim sessions
Our Swimming Pool will not be open for public swims, including for members, on 25 July but we are aiming to reopen as soon as possible. We will provide updates as soon as we can, however, Monday 17 August would be the earliest we could open, and we anticipate being fully operational by the beginning of Autumn.
Are all facilities operating as normal?
As of 25 July, the only indoor facility reopening to members of the public is Holywell Fitness Centre gym. All other facilities will undergo a phased reopening in line with Government guidelines and the requirements of our partners, including UK Sport, English Institute of Sport and National Governing Bodies for sport. We will provide updates as the situation for each facility changes but the plan is for all facilities to be fully operational by the beginning of Autumn.
The same policy applies to our outdoor facilities, with the only facilities currently open to the public being Ball Park and Games Park.
Due to continuing staff shortages, unfortunately it will take up to 8 weeks to process your refund from the time of your request or from when we reopen Holywell Fitness Centre on 25 July (whichever comes later).
Eligable refunds must be within our terms and conditions:
