Alumna Wood earns England silver in 4x100m Freestyle Relay
Alumna Abbie Wood produced a storming swim as Team England claimed silver in the Women’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay at the Commonwealth Games.
Wood, who graduated in Criminology and Social Policy, secured second place alongside teammates Anna Hopkin – who trains at the University under the guidance of Mel Marshall –, Freya Anderson, and Isabella Hindley.
Recording a split of 54.82 Wood’s second leg saw England move ahead of Canada, as eventual winners Australia romped home. This evening’s silver is Wood’s second of the competition after being awarded a medal in the Mixed 4x100m following her appearance in the heats.
After two days of sporting action, Loughborough-linked athletes have now secured a total of five medals at the Commonwealth Games, – one gold, and four silver.
