Tell us a little bit about yourself (hobbies, interests and background):

My passion is sport; watching, playing or refereeing. It is a fantastic way to meet people and compliments my academic studies. I am an Aston Villa fan, so I love supporting an underdog! I also enjoy reading and trying to expand my film knowledge!

How did you first get involved in volunteering within sport at Loughborough?

I have been involved in Loughborough Sport primarily in the social sections. I refereed IMS rugby and took part in sporting fixtures for my fresher hall.

During your years at Loughborough what have you got involved in through volunteering within sport?

Through the CVA as a rugby referee, I have enjoyed being a part of the IMS, Super Series, IMS v AU and Nottingham Varsity programmes.

What has your experience volunteering been like whilst at Loughborough?

I have had a fantastic experience. In positions of responsibility, Loughborough CVA have been helpful and enthusiastic, whilst also giving me freedom to explore ideas to improve the role. I would highly recommend that students consider applying for roles within the CVA.

How has being involved with Loughborough Sport helped you develop and progress (personally and professionally)?

The main takeaway for me has been the chance to build on my communication skills to gain a better understand of what people would like to see in a programme. This involves getting constant feedback from a variety of sources and improving the programme accordingly. I also love the mentoring and development skills I have improved while at university. Seeing people progress and taking on challenges is highly rewarding, and I look forward to applying these skills in my post-university career.

What’s the best advice you could give to a Loughborough student looking to get involved in volunteering & gain the most out of their university experiences?

Speak to people and get involved! There are so many opportunities to complement your academic studies at Loughborough University. Look on the CVA portal and see what role suits you.
