Postgraduate Taught Student Finance

You might need to use a combination of savings, family support and government loans to fund your Masters programme.

It is advisable to have adequate funding in place prior to commencing studies. A list of potential funding sources including bursaries is compiled here: https://www.lboro.ac.uk/study/postgraduate/fees-funding/masters-funding/

In general, you can expect to spend £1,200 per month for living/accommodation costs while studying in Loughborough, i.e. £14,400 across the whole year.  Accommodation costs in London can significantly increase costs to £1,600 or higher per month. For more detail please see How much do I need for living costs which gives some sample budgets for different types of students with an indication of how much you need to live on. All figures are intended as guidance only and may vary depending on personal preferences and external factors that affect the cost of living.

Students intending to rely on the UK government Master’s Loan (£11,836 2022/23 starters and £12,167 for 2023/24 starters, resident in England) should beware this might only be sufficient to cover basic living costs but will not be adequate to also cover tuition fees.

If you have a disability, long-term health condition, mental health condition or specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia or dyspraxia, you may be able to get extra help through Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSAs).

Postgraduate Student Loans are available to students who normally live in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland for taught Postgraduate courses.
